LIFE AT YORK LODGE

A fear that many people have when they move into a care home is that their life will no longer have any meaning. They fear that they will sit in a chair and have nothing to do or look forward to. However that is simply just not the case and us at York Lodge are very passionate in ensuring that all the residents have the opportunity and support in undertaking activities that are meaningful to them. We support residents in the following ways:

COMPUTER WORK

All residents have the opportunity to work with staff in using the internet to find out information, email friends and family, learn about social media or to learn computer skills such as typing, the word programme and internet browsing. York Lodge has WiFi throughout the home.

HEALTH AND BEAUTY

York Lodge support all residents with looking after their appearance and looking swish! Staff paint residents nails at least once a week, escort them to have their hair cut. Some residents even enjoy going to the local beauty salons to have numerous treatments done, such as waxing and nail painting too.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

We have weekly arts and crafts afternoons where the residents have the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Lots of residents use this time to update their scrap books. There is also an arts and creativity café around the corner from York Lodge and pottery afternoons in Worthing town centre. We also shake things up a bit at times and undertake different activities like tie dying clothes and decorating cakes.

ENTERTAINMENT

All residents have the opportunity to go to the local cinema or theatre. In Worthing we have three to choose from!! However what the residents enjoy most is being entertained in their own living room. We regularly book entertainers to sing the afternoon away and the residents can’t help but sing along.

KEEPING BUSY AND HELPING AROUND THE HOME

All residents are given the opportunity to keep themselves busy and to help the staff with small tasks around the home; such as peeling vegetables, setting the tables for meals, sweeping the patio area, washing and drying dishes etc.

BUDDY THE THERAPY DOG

We are all animal lovers here at York Lodge and are very lucky that Buddy comes in every weekend, in order to allow the residents to have a furry friend to fuss over and take for walks and play with, without the concern of looking after a pet full time.

TUCK SHOP

Every Tuesday and Friday York Lodge bring the local shop to the residents. In 2015 we opened our Tuck Shop and after its wild success we haven’t looked back. We buy snacks for residents to purchase. This is especially enjoyable for those who require assistance in accessing the local shop. This way they are given the opportunity to regain their independence.

AND RELAX...

Sometimes we just need a little bit of peace and quiet and time and space to relax and unwind. Not only does everyone have televisions and music players in their rooms, we also have a library of books available for residents to read and a quiet room in the top lounge for residents to sit and relax without the hustle and bustle of the down stairs lounge.
